Another dangerous heart disease is heart attack. This is one of those diseases which kills thousands of people every year. That’s why it is important to know the symptoms of this disease, so you can distinguish it and take the right treatment in time. Some common symptoms of heart attack are:

– Vomiting, dizziness, sweating or nausea

– Fast and irregular heartbeats

– Heaviness, discomfort, pressure or pain in the arm, chest or under the breastbone

– Indigestion, fullness or choking feeling (similar to heartburn)

– Discomfort radiating in the jaw, arm, back or throat

– Anxiety, hardly breathing or extreme weakness

It is a must that you learn how to realize if you are having a heart attack or not. A heart attack typically lasts 30 minutes and cannot be relieved by taking oral medications or by resting. Some people may also experience a heart attack without any of these symptoms.

This kind of heart disease is usually called a “silent” MI (myocardial infarction) and it usually happens to people who suffer from diabetes. However, for those who experience a heart attack with the symptoms mentioned above, you will feel a mild discomfort as initial symptoms which will progress to significant pain.

Arrhythmias is another common heart disease, which has many symptoms such as :

– Hardly breathing

– Pounding in the chest

– Palpitations (similar to a feeling of skipped heartbeats)

– Feeling light-headed

– Feeling very tired

– Fainting

Atrial fibrillation is a kind of arrhythmia. Some usual symptoms of it are dizziness, chest pain, lack of energy, difficulty with breathing. There are patients though who experience atrial fibrillation with no symptoms.

Heart-Healthy Diet

Eating certain foods can be risky for our heart. I know that it is hard to change your eating habits, but if you want to avoid heart diseases you should start eating healthy. There are some eating tips which will reduce the possibility that you suffer from any type of heart diseases.

  1. Consume more vegetables and fruits

We know that fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals. They are also a good source of dietary fibre and they are low in calories. Fruits and vegetables have substances that may prevent cardiovascular disease. It is important to limit coconut, breaded or fried vegetables, canned fruit which are packed in heavy syrup, vegetables with creamy sauces, and frozen fruit with sugar.

  1. Learn to select whole grains

Whole grains contain fibre and other nutrients which play an important role in regulating blood pressure and heart disease. Some grain products that you can choose are whole-wheat flour, high fibre cereal, whole grain bread, oatmeal and whole-grain pasta. Don’t forget that there are also some grain products which you should avoid or limit such as : white bread, refined flour, frozen waffles, doughnuts, muffins, biscuits, cakes and pies. Even high-fat snack crackers can be harmful to your heart.

  1. Limit unhealthy fats

Fats are an enemy almost for all diseases, especially for heart diseases. However you must learn distinguish healthy fats from unhealthy ones. Saturated and trans fats are the worst fats to be consumed. It is recommended that you consume less than 7% of your total calories per day. Limiting this kind of fat can lower our blood cholesterol and reduce the danger of coronary artery disease.

A very high blood cholesterol level can cause the formation of plaques in our arteries, named atherosclerosis that can raise the danger of stroke and heart attack. Some kind of fats that you must limit or avoid are: gravy, lard, cream sauce, butter, bacon fat, margarine, cocoa butter, nondairy creamers and coconut palm.

There are though some fats that you can include to your diet such as olive oil, nut and vegetable oils, avocados, seeds and cholesterol reducing margarine like Benecol or Promise Activ.
