Asthma is a chronic disease of the airways that makes our breathing difficult. Asthma results in a temporary narrowing of the airway that carries oxygen to our lungs. This disease is serious and sometimes can result even dangerous.

  • Irritants such as cleaning solutions, perfumes and air pollution.

Right Diet to Prevent Asthma

All people who suffer from asthma should know that a good diet is an important treatment plan. If you are allergic to some specific foods, you should try to avoid them. Allergies can trigger asthma symptoms. Studies have shown some evidences that people who eat diets higher in vitamins C and E, magnesium, selenium and omega – 3 fatty acids have lower rates of asthma.

All these substances are antioxidants, and they protect our cells from damage. Another recent study has showed that people with poor nutrition are more likely to have problems in breathing. Those people who grew up eating a Mediterranean diet, like nuts, fruits and vegetables are less likely to have asthma problems.

Below is a healthy diet for people who suffer from asthma.

  • Consume daily fruits and vegetables. If you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables you will decrease the risk of asthma, so the best advice would be to consume a variety of them.
  • Eat foods with omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish and some plant sources. Try to consume salmon, tuna and sardines. These kind of foods have a number of health benefits.
  • Avoid trans-fat and omega-6 fatty acids. Asthmatic people should avoid eating omega-6 fatty acids and trans fats which are found in some margarines and processed foods. These kinds of foods may worsen asthma and have serious health problems.
